What is your Reproductive Health Status?

We believe in empowering you on the path to parenthood and therefore, it is important to understand your reproductive health.

There is no one size fits all solution in fertility. Everyone’s journey is different. Your gynaecologist / referring doctor may have already sent you for some tests.

If not, we can recommend the right tests to be done to guide you on understanding your fertility status.

Female Fertility Tests

Ovulation Testing and Tracking

Regular and predictable periods are strong indicators of ovulation.

At home urine test kits are commercially available and are easy to use to predict when you are about to ovulate. Additional tests to confirm ovulation include a blood test for progesterone hormone levels or an ultrasound scan. The timing of these tests will usually be advised based on your cycle length.

Pelvic Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging is used to assess reproductive organs within the pelvis.

The uterus and ovaries are usually assessed to confirm their normality. Common conditions like uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts are easily identified with ultrasound imaging. You will be advised if any abnormality is seen, and whether it relates to your infertility.

Checking the Fallopian Tubes

A test for fallopian tubes is usually advised to check if one or both tubes may be blocked.

Blocked tubes may be the cause for infertility, necessitating either surgery or IVF treatment. The most common test for checking fallopian tubes is called HSG. An ultrasound-based test, HyCoSy, is also available. We will advise which test best suits you, and when to do it if applicable in your situation.

Ovarian Reserve

Ovarian reserve is the number of eggs that you have left in your ovaries.

Women are born with all the eggs they will ever have. Their quantity and quality deteriorate with age. We use a simple blood test called Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) test. This test gives us an indication of the number of eggs left in your ovaries. A normal result means you have an average number of eggs for your age group. This test does not tell us the quality of your eggs, only the quantity. This test can be done at any time during your menstrual cycle.

Male Fertility Tests

Semen Analysis

The best way to assess male fertility is through a semen analysis.

This test can give accurate information about the sperm quantity and quality. A normal result indicates appropriate capacity to procreate. If the result is abnormal, men will usually be advised to undergo additional tests.

Hormonal Testing

This is mostly necessary only when initial semen analysis is abnormal.

The results will help explain why the semen was abnormal and provide a basis for subsequent treatment.

Fertility Health Check

Infertility stems from female reproductive system issues in 30% of cases, while male infertility accounts for another 30%.

A further 30% of cases are a combination of both male and female factors and the remaining 10% of cases are unexplained. Click the button below to predict your chances of success with IVF treatment.

If you have not had any tests yet, feel free to arrange an appointment with us and our team will help you out.

Having fertility checks can give you the confidence to keep trying, particularly when you know the routine tests have come back normal.

Lifestyle Awareness

It is important to think about your own health and well-being prior to fertility treatment.

Preparing your body for pregnancy is crucial for a healthy mother and baby. Paying close attention to your diet and lifestyle before conception is key. Folic acid and other supplements may be recommended prior to and during your treatment.

Maintain a balanced diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, fiber, and protein, while staying well-hydrated. Continue exercising, steer clear of smoking and alcohol, and avoid self-medication. Inform both your general practitioner and dentist about your fertility treatment.

Minimising stress and emotional tension is essential. Consider seeking psychological support during fertility treatment, and we can recommend a suitable psychologist to assist you on your journey.
