# What is Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) and when is it recommended as a treatment option?

In a typical IVF cycle, the ovaries are stimulated to produce multiple eggs, often resulting in several healthy embryos. Usually, only one or two embryos are transferred to the uterus immediately, while the rest can be frozen for future use. This freezing allows for another IVF attempt if the first transfer doesn’t result in pregnancy or for creating a sibling later on.

Sometimes, a woman may be advised to freeze all her embryos if her uterus lining isn’t ready or if there’s a risk of ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome (OHSS). Additionally, freezing all embryos is becoming more common as it’s believed that the more natural environment of the uterus in a later cycle might improve the chances of pregnancy.

For women who wish to delay pregnancy until their late 30s or early 40s but are concerned about the quality of their eggs by then, freezing embryos offers a potential option.
