# PMS symptoms vs Pregnancy symptoms

Many women experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms just prior to their monthly period. These symptoms may include mood swings, tender breasts, food cravings, fatigue, irritability and depression. Interestingly, many of these symptoms are felt during early pregnancy and can be confused during the “two-week wait” (TWW) between ovulation and finding out if you are pregnant. Your body naturally produces more progesterone, one of the hormones responsible for many PMS symptoms, in the weeks after ovulation, whether or not you are pregnant. If you are pregnant, your body will continue producing progesterone and you may continue experiencing PMS-like symptoms.

The TWW can be stressful and learning about the difference between PMS and early pregnancy symptoms could make the wait more bearable. One of the key differences is that PMS is not likely to make you feel nauseated or vomit, which is a common pregnancy symptom. [This article](https://www.parents.com/getting-pregnant/trying-to-conceive/am-i-pregnant-6-things-you-should-know-about-the-2-week-wait/) by Parents, goes more in depth into the commonalities and differences and what to do during the TWW, Including understanding early pregnancy symptoms, managing stress, and avoiding over-interpretation of body changes. It’s important to maintain healthy habits and patience during this time. Consulting a doctor for guidance can be beneficial if needed.
